Usually when we here at Dunoon Community Radio start talking about Celtic Connections it’s usually at the beginning of January and we are telling you about the great musical event about to start in Glasgow with Celtic Connections

To celebrate the Commonwealth Games and to give it a slight flavour of a wee part of the January held Celtic Connections the very popular Celtic Connections Late Night Festival Club last held last January in the fabulous newly refurbished  Art School will make a summer appearance.

Programmed in association with the acclaimed Celtic Connections Festival, each night from Monday 28th July to Saturday 2nd August the Festival 2014 Club will be held at Glasgow’s Old Fruitmarket and will take you on a journey across the many musical cultures of Scotland and the Commonwealth.

Recognised as the official  Team Scotland Festival 2014’s official late night venue. Local talent and guest performers from all over the Commonwealth will put on a surprising and vibrant programme full of Festival flavour in one of Glasgow’s best loved venues.

The Festival 2014 will also welcome Team Scotland when top athletes will reveal their experience of Glasgow 2014  – and will get behind the decks to DJ in our guest ‘Field of Play’ slot.

It all kick off tonight Friday 25th July with this special

Festival 2014 Club featuring Ibibio Sound Machine

Fronted by London-born Nigerian singer Eno Williams, Ibibio Sound Machine is a clash of African and electronic elements inspired in equal measure by the golden era of West African funk & disco and modern post-punk & electro.

Based in Lilongwe, Malawi, the different backgrounds and cultural roots of Mafilika’s members inspired the band’s musical style, which fuses rock with roots and jazz with alternative.

The exciting sound of The Paul McKenna Band is created through outstanding Vocals, driving Guitar and Bouzouki, intense fiddle playing, a warm pairing of flute and whistles and dynamic bodhrán and percussion.  With a contemporary approach to songs, although not straying too far from their roots, their arrangements are both fresh and innovative.
