Over one hundred music lovers attended the much anticipated Canti Amici concert at the Matheson Memorial church at Innellan last night Saturday 21st November
The concert arranged by the Innellan Church organist Philip Norris to raise much needed funds for the Cowal Hospice and church funds. The Canti Amici Singers have given many highly successful fundraising concerts in the Scotland’s central belt and Ayrshire, where their performances have always been very well received by music lovers. The Canti Amici have raised over £40,000 at their concerts for good causes.

The Canti Amici Singers , directed by Jonathan Hawkins, -a former member of the Scottish Opera are a versatile group of singers who last night where represented by eight of their members (enough to nearly lift the roof of the Matheson Church) with a repertoire that includes music from Opera to well know Songs from stage Musicals

Accompanied by their regular pianist, Lynda Norris, a well known local pianist with musical connections in both Cowal and Glasgow the delighted audience were treated to the music and songs of Rogers and Hammerstein with outstanding excerpts from Oklahoma!, Carousel, and South Pacific.

Leonard Bernstein’s “I feel Pretty” from West Side Story was an amusing piece and a fine rendition of “On The Street Where You Live” from Alan Jay Lerner and Fredrick Loewe’s My Fair Lady plus a mesmerizing delightful performance of “I Could Have Danced All Night “ nearly had everyone dancing. .

To complement Part 1 of the programme we had a short Organ recital half way through when Phillip Norris utilised the full versatility of the Matheson Church with an outstanding Leon Boellemann piece Toccata from Suite Gothique  with a Tierce de Picardie on full organ.

After the now almost obligatory “Tea Break” complimented by the wonderful home baking provided by the ladies of the congregation everyone was treated to a Second half no less entertaining than the first with more Operatic pieces and favourites from such as Les Miserables.
