Dunoon Mod 2018

The Royal National Mòd is organised by An Comunn Gàidhealach (The Highland Association) which was founded in Oban in 1891 and has HM The Queen as its Patron. Famous for celebrating the Gaelic linguistic and cultural heritage, Scotland’s premier Gaelic festival provides opportunities for people of all ages to perform across a range of competitive disciplines including Gaelic music and song, highland dancing, instrumental, drama, sport and literature.

2018 sees Dunoon playing host to the Royal National Mod for the 8th time the first Mod taking place in Dunoon October 1930                                                  

                                               Dunoon Community Radio first broadcast reports of the event under special licence  in 2006 and since broadcasting under an Ofcom FM Licence in 2009 has brought listeners information of Mod activities from Cities throughout Scotland including a seventh visit to Dunoon in 2006.

Dunoon Community Radio will commence broadcasting live news from the Mod with Dcr Anchor presenter Frlly on Saturday morning who will report on the night’s before opening ceremony the Torchlight Procession when Dunoon welcomes the Royal National Mod with a torchlight procession through Dunoon’s Argyll Street led by the Dunoon Argyll Pipe Band.

Frlly will also be telling you about events on the Dunoon Mod 2018 Fringe Programme taking place the opening weekend before the main competitions begin on Monday.        Fringe events will take place throughout the week offering a diverse range range of activities including the now compulsory Ecumenical Gaelic Service, the Sunday Mod Worship, musical event including the famous Fiddlers Rally, Shinty and Football Tournaments,Outside Pursuits and many Musical Events.

Frlly and her team will keep you informed of all the Fringe Programme and will introduce guest into the John Street Broadcasting Studio as well of course as the latest results from The Dunoon Mod 2018 Competitions.
