Gill Toosey

Gill Toosey is one of Dunoon Community Radio’s new presenters for 2018 and is looking forward to hosting a show with a classical and informative edge.

Gillian has had a professional career as a musician for over 40 years, performing in venues in the UK and abroad as a soprano soloist and first-study pianist. She has sung and played piano in Abu Dhabi, London, Stockholm, Belgium, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Jersey, Lulea, (Finland), and Edinburgh.

After moving to Innellan in June 2017, and returning to Scotland after 32 years in England and two husbands (not at the same time!) working as a professional classical musician and teacher, Gill has chosen this beautiful part of Argyll as her new home. She is also a published author. Her first book, ‘In Mysterious Ways’ was published in May 2017 and is available on Amazon, all major retailers and also in Bookpoint, Dunoon.

In September last year, she started a new venture; something she had contemplated even before arriving in Dunoon.  Dunoon Community Choir was formed and now there are over 70 voices singing together every week rehearsing in St John’s Church hall in Dunoon on Wednesday evenings,  7-9pm. Gill firmly believes that singing is and should be available for everyone. Making music with others improves our well-being, our overall health and physical fitness. Above all,   singing together is uplifting and fun.

Gill has eclectic musical tastes and her favourite composers are (piano music) Chopin, Debussy, Beethoven, and Bach, ( symphonic) Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven.  She also loves Scottish bands; Manran, Heron Valley, Red Hot Chilli Pipers, to name but a few.

Gill looks forward to interacting with the local community on musical projects and hopes to invite musical guests onto her programme.
