A big Welcome to every one from all the volunteers at Dunoon’s local radio station                                                        Dunoon Community Radio.

We broadcast locally on 97.4FM waveband also on the internet at www.dunooncommunityradio.org and we hope you will tune in and listen to us whilst you are here in Dunoon for this years National Mod. …………………………………………

As a local Community Radio we try to broadcast programmes not only to entertain and keep local listeners informed to what is happening in the area but also to listeners from all over the world who have an interest in Dunoon and Cowal.

We keep everyone informed as to what is happening in the area with regular “What’s On” information and wee chats “on air” with members of the community involved with interesting things to pass on our listeners.

Beside the Royal National Mod taking place in Dunoon this year we have already celebrated the world famous “Cowal Highland Gathering” many of you will know of this and some of you may have visited Dunoon either as a competitor or spectator, many who could not get here did the next best thing and  listened to our live broadcast from the Gathering covering all the events, reporting the live action, the compertition results and many interviews with not only competitors to the Gathering but many visitors from across the world.

We are just in the closing stages of Scotland’s largest festival of walking and arts held each year here in Argyll Cowalfest2012 and also covered extensively by Dunoon Community Radio.

Dunoon Community Radio will start broadcasting each morning from Monday 15th October 7.00am when Derek McIntyre invites you to join him in “McIntyre in the Morning” Derek will keep you informed with travel and weather updates and all the latest local and Mod related local news.

After 10.00am it is “All Things Mod” with regular Mod presenters Fryll and Mary Pollock who shall start the week long broadcast by bringing  you up to date with  the opening weekend events including the opening ceremony, the traditional Shinty Match between Kyles Athletic and Bute , the Mod Challenge Cup this year between Dunoon Amateurs and next years Mod Host Paisley Amateurs  and the famous Fiddler’s Rally.

Convener of the Dunoon National Mod Committee Dick Walsh will welcome listeners     “Cuid Mile Failte, Failte Dhunomhain#” to the Mod broadcast.

During the Mod broadcast Frlly and Mary will be joined by Mod contributors Patrick, Jennifer, Aline, Christin and DCR presenters including Sarah, Victor, Dr Phil, Rupert, Dave De Kort, Fiona McNeil, Luke,  Alasdair MacCuish and Marion McNeil.

On Monday and Tuesday with nearly 1,300 children from across the country competing in competitions the presenting team will be joined by junior presenters Rhona and Nuala Neery, Jemma Johnston and Ashley Cassidy

To cover the special celebrations to commemorate the 120 year link between the Clarsach  Society and the Royal National Mod on Wednesday we will have our own Clarsach player Eleanor Holley contributing

.

Solo competitors, instrumentalist, singers and Gaelic Choir members will be joining us in the studio at the Mod Venue Dunoon Primary School to give us an insight into the adult Traditional and Gold Medal competitions and hopefully a song or two.

We shall also be welcoming competitors from abroad including several friends from America including folk group entrants Donnie Large, Susan Craig Winsberg and Maureen Brennan.

Regular contributors to our “All Things Mod” programme will be joining us including Mod Competitor Pauline Cannon and members of the Gaelic Waulking Song Group “Sgioba Luaidh Inbhirchluaidh.

There will be a lot of talk of the coveted Lovat & Tullibardine and Margrat Duncan titles and Mod competitors and also representative of An Comunn Gaidhealachy the governing body of the “Mod” Janet MacDonald and James Graham will be visiting us to chat.

We will also be mentioning local youngsters and wishing them well including from Strachur Alex Mackechnie competing in the fiddle and accordion and Jamie Campbell who will be joining Donnie and Jamie McKerral from Campletown in the junior piping competitions. Dunoon’s Jemma Johnston will be singing and also competing in the fiddle contest. From Dunoon Grammar School we have Junior DCR presenter Nuala Neary who along with Kyle Martin and Kyle McLenna are to show thiere skills in the oral competitions. Also look forward to visits in the studio from pupils from The Sandbank Gaelic Unit –far to mention to mention hear but we will name them in our Mod Roll Of Honour

We shall And of course we must also mention our very own Fryll (Frances Lynn) who will be singing in several competitions and around the Studio day.
