Written by Archie Fergusson on 11/10/2014
For spectators and competitors alike this surely is one of the highlights of the 2014 Cowal Fest with folk from all over the UK and Abroad arriving at Benmore Gardens
The races will be held on Saturday 11th October 2014 and starts at 1.30pm. Registration will be from 12.30 to 1.15pm followed by safety briefing. The run will begin at the car park and follow more or less the perimeter of the garden, for 5k runners this will be once round the perimeter, for 10k runners it will be repeated.
The course is quite hilly in places and consists of paths, some forestry type road and steps and shingle. No running spikes are allowed. All competitors must stay on the designated paths at all times. All competitors must step through the footbath on entering and leaving the Gardens. A water station is hoped to be provided at the 5km mark.
All completing the course will be provided with a commemorative medal and goody bag. Prizes will be awarded to 1st Male and Female home for each race. No under 12’s are allowed to enter, 12 to 16 year olds will be permitted in the 5k race only. The event will be covered by the Cowalfest Events Insurance and we will have first aiders on site.
A café provides coffees, teas, light meals and excellent baking and toilet facilities on site as is the Benmore Shop which sells a fascinating range of gifts, cards, books and plants. The gardens will be open to the public so any friends and family accompanying runners will be able to pay and visit the gardens while you run. Its collection of over 300 species of rhododendrons is one of the finest in the world – visit www.rbge.org.uk for further information. Please remember it is your responsibility to be fit to compete on race day. If you have any doubts, please do not run.
