DR PHIL WINS PRESTIGEOUS AMERICAN AWARD FOR “MISSISSIPPI JOHN HURT” BOOK

Dunoon Community Radio is again very pleased to announce another musical achievement by a DCR volunteer, following in the wake of the great achievement of DCR presenter Trish in winning the Best Radio Show at the 2012 New Scottish Music Awards news from across the Atlantic has reached DCR presenter Dr Phil.
Dr Phil presenter of the bi- weekly Sound’s Of The South and also author of the book ‘Mississippi John Hurt: His Life, His Times, His Blues’ which was published in the U.S.A in June 2011 to excellent reviews.
The news from America has come from the Association for Recorded Sound Collections (ARSC) an organization dedicated to the preservation and study of sound recordings, in all genres of music and speech, in all formats, and from all periods. ARSC is unique in bringing together private individuals and institutional professionals—everyone with a serious interest in recorded sound and each year award the ARSC Awards for Excellence. The Association for Recorded Sound Collections is pleased to announce the winners of the 2012 ARSC Awards for Excellence in Historical Recorded Sound Research. Begun in 1991, the awards are presented to authors and publishers of books, articles, liner notes, and monographs, to recognize outstanding published research in the field of recorded sound. In giving these awards, ARSC recognizes outstanding contributions, encourages high standards, and promotes awareness of superior works. Two awards may presented annually in each category—one for best history and one for best discography. Certificates of Merit are presented to runners-up of exceptionally high quality. The 2012 Awards for Excellence honor works published in 2011.
