KIRN GALA TO CELEBRATE 2Ist ANNIVERSARY 2016

Written by on 15/02/2016

A recent revitalised Kirn Gala committee has announced that Kirn Gala will celebrate the 21st Anniversary on the 24th August 2016.

Original committee members Ian McColm, Colin Harris, Margaret Stevenson, Neil Alexander have been joined by new members Jim Anderson, Dee James and Victor Thomas and a support group called “Friends Of Kirn”, Grant Macarthur, David Cambell, Allan MacDonald, Megan Stirling and Iain Stirling.

An AGM meeting to take place on Wednesday 9th March at the Kirn Church Crypt

.Everyone is welcome to come along; it is hoped that after the AGM anyone who has the time and is interested in joining the Committee or “Friends Of Kirn ” can get further information.

Last year with a much reduced committee it was decided to take a break from the usual event and a quickly organised Pop Up “Spirit Of Kirn” event took place involving local Dunoon retailers and local charities

To many folk Kirn Gala is known as Cowal’s biggest charitable event with tombola and charity stalls galore where bargains are to be obtained in a carnival family atmosphere. For many charity / organisations it is the yearly event where there is the possibility of raising much needed funds and publicising awareness of their aims and objectives.

The Gala is traditionally followed by entertainment from a specially erected stage in the closed off street with local entertainers given the opportunity to perform.

To celebrate the 21st Anniversary the committee will be looking at ideas to enhance the event and hopefully folk will bring new ideas to the AGM.

Dunoon Community Radio give full support to  the Kirn Gala Committee in promoting the event both on social media and the radio and will be encouraging other charity groups, local organisations and the retail community to become  involved.
