FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER LIVE ACROSS THE WORLD ON RADIO
It was revealed earlier this evening on the Late Late Late Very Late Breakfast Show when DCR97.4FM Celebrity presenter Derek McIntyre announced the line up for the Legendry evening event that will take place here in Dunoon in the run up to the Cowal Highland Gathering mid-week at the Argyll Gardens.
After last year’s fantastic revival of this prestigious event by Derek’s namesake Roddy McIntyre it was felt by many folk that it should not only happen again but should grow in stature as the run up to the Cowal Highland Gathering has with the introduction of Dizzy Dayz in Dunoon.
Supported by like minded folk including Dunoons BIDPA23 Derek explained how he was asked several weeks ago if he would carry on the good work Roddy McIntyre did last year in reviving the event and accepted immediately.
One of the first things he looked at was the ornament Bandstand which although picturesque in its surrounding wasn’t really practical as a “Stage” to show case Bands and Dancers and also restrictive to performers because of its shape and size.
This on the night will be put right with the construction of a stage built up to and the same height as the bandstand stage with sufficient room for each act to perform, the height of the stage will mean that dancers who usually perform on the stone surface in front of the bandstand will on this occasion perform on a flat surface and at a height every one in the gardens will see.
Compliment the staging with a top sound system and visitors to the Argyll Gardens this night will surely be in a “dizzy dayz” by the splendour of it all.
When it comes to the entertainment on the stage this night there are no headliners or main acts, there are amongst the performers acts with well-earned international reputations and performers just starting out and performers who just enjoy entertaining folk.
The theme will reflect that the Cowal Highland Gathering as the most prestigious Scottish event in the world and will feature an artist who will reflect in song and stories the Scotland of old days before and after “The White heather Club”. A big welcome is assured for the much loved Tom Irvine.
Invited on stage as a very special guest will be one of the worlds most famous Drum Major’s………..World Champion Drum Major Brian Wilson who is sure to make the crowds “dizzy” with his incredible Mace throwing.
The Christina Cairns School of Highland Dancing having competed in the stadium during the day will set the stage alive with special dance choreography to thrill everyone.
The Cowal Fiddle Workshop will entertain with musicians both from the talented juniors as well as the well-versed seniors.
The talented young local lady with the massive reputation Abigail Pryde will perform Live in one of her rare local performances as she takes a break from her studies at Dunoon’s Grammar School and Glasgow”s Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
Not so rare but with the launch of their latest CD at Glasgow’s Oran Mor on Saturday 20th September a rare opportunity to hear one of Scotland’s top Celtic Folk Rock Bands Reely Jiggered play tunes from their forthcoming CD Kaleidoscope.
Also performing on the Sunset Ceremony stage will be the boy’s from Barra the fabulous Vatersay Boys, a firm favourite on DCRs Ian Wilson’s West Coast Ceilidh and regulary selling out the Glasgow Barrowland. The Vatersay Boys have a huge following playing energetic, raw ceilidh music another rare treat for Cowal and the Sunset Ceremony.
Of course there is still to be announced the guest Pipe Band and no event like this would be without at least one very , very secret special guest.
As Derek informed the listeners this evening since rumours of the Sunset Ceremony taking place have spread there have many performers offering their services some of who will be making guest appearances during Dunoon’s Dizzy Days.
As soon as the running order has been finalized Derek will revisit the studio to bring listeners up to date and all the latest news.
As the official broadcaster of The Cowal Highland Gathering, Dizzy Dayz and the Sunset Ceremony broadcasting these events Live on 97.4FM and across the world on the internet we are very proud to announce that Dunoon Community Radio will commence the Live Sunset Ceremony broadcast by taking to the stage bringing you……………………………..
