Jack Bell – Keyboards. Dave Walker – Lead Guitar. Benny McCormick – Voice Over are about to release the first CD of 1916 – 2016 the Trilogy of the Somme.
The first part of 1916 – 2016 is dedicated to the memory of Robert Woodside , Rab’s Grandfather who as an orphan spent his earlier years in a Quarrier Home.
In 1915 leaving the mining village of Bothwellhaug where now as a young man he was living, he joined the The Highland Light Infantry to fight in the Great War.
He fought in the battles of Loos and Mons in Belgium the finally in the Battle of The Somme where he was gassed ,his lungs burnt he was lucky to survive.
After spending a year in a French Military Hospital recuperating he eventually was brought back to Britain to spend the rest of his working life underground working in the Coal Mines of Lanarkshire.
With his good friend and musical calibrator Brian Lawlor who together have been providing the Rhythm section in Bands for nearly thirty years they got together a group of like-minded musicians to create the Trilogy of the Somme
Friday night in “Whatever Rocks Your Boat” Trish will tell the story and play the music and tell you how The Artisans hope to raise money for Service Personell both past and present who still need our help even after the guns have ceased firing
