South Cowal Community Development Company (SCCDC) have launched their own website to to keep the community fully up to date and aware of the actions they are making on behalf of the community
SCCDC have been receiving local and national media coverage over the last week or so , following the news that their Community Right to Buy interest has been accepted by Scottish Ministers. Chairman Alan Stewart appeared on local radio station Dunoon Community Radio with follow up on Radio Clyde and also featured in a special report by BBC Alba’s An Là programme.
As Chairman Alan Stewart stated on Dunoon Community Radio the South Cowal Community Development Company (SCCDC) wishes to bring Castle Toward into Community ownership in order that may have control over the future of the building and the grounds, and maintain it as the valuable asset that it has become for the people of South Cowal and beyond.
They are using the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003, which gives communities the right to buy property or land within the Community should that property or land ever be marketed by the owner. The Community cannot force a landowner to sell, but having an application approved means that should the land or property ever be put on the market, the Community has to be given the chance to purchase it without having to compete on the open market.
