“I didn’t realise at the time that at the end of a day’s walking on the Camino de Santiago, when I was tired but happy, that the thoughts I was writing down would one day be a book. I’m proud that I’ve written this and hope that one day it inspires someone to do something they dream about.”

Iain McKie presented his first programme here on Dunoon Community Radio on the 15th December 2015 , some of you will remember Iain was first introduced to the listeners as a guest on Tuesday’s TLLLVLBS with Victor and Carol and made such an impression not only with the DCR97.4FM team but with the listeners that he was asked to return the following week and then the next and now has been given his very own programme.

Iain’s weekly show “perpetual dreams” is a time to sit back, have fun and listen to a incredible variety of music, many tunes the choice of the listeners. There is also the chance to talk about some of the positive things in life with a weekly inspirational quote while Iain will look at the fun side of any issues that may require help with.

Since the start of his programme Iain has invited guest into the studio to chat not only well known personalities but folk talking about social issues and community matters and even medical issues such as the Vaginal Mesh controversy always keen to bring to his listeners attention important matters that need a wee push.

Iain is always ready to promote achievement of groups or individuals be it folk involved in the arts or physical activities like  a youngster’s baton Twirlers troupe or championing local girl Rachel Bowie Scotland B team captain.

It wasn’t long after Iain started his programme when he started telling his listeners about a book he was reading and how inspirational he was finding it and he knew there was something he really had to do which was ‘The Camino de Santiago”

 IAIN-300x168

‘The Camino de Santiago also known by the English name  Way of St James is the name of any of the pilgrimage routes, known as pilgrim ways,  to the shrine of the apostle St. James the Great in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain, where tradition has it that the remains of the saint are buried.                                                                                                                                                                                        Many take up this route as a form of spiritual path or retreat for their spiritual growth.

In February 2016 Iain gave details of his quest and promised to keep everyone informed by creating a blog on social media and wouldl try to add to it as often as he could he would also paint one picture a day.

Iain did tell his listeners that he had trouble writing a shopping list and as for drawing his only experience was the “Art” classes he had recently been attending as an interesting topic to talk to his listeners about.

The seriousness of the quest became very apparent when Iain took to weighing items of clothing on his programme as every single item he would take had to be weighed and be part of a calculated total weight he would carry over 500 miles.
