GOOD WAY FOR DCR TO START THE YEAR
Written by Archie Fergusson on 06/04/2009
Having received an invitation from the Dunoon and Cowal Heritage Society to send along a representative from Dunoon Community Radio to their first meeting of 2009, Douglas and Victor were despatched along to the meeting held at the Camera Club premises in Dunoon’s Castle Street.
The Camera Club premises for those who don’t know is a wonderful venue for meetings which are held in their small cinema.
DCR and the Scottish Community Broadcasting Network
After bringing the large turn out up-to date and giving details of the proposed future development of DCR Douglas and Victor referred to the success of similar ventures in Scotland; that are bringing specialised information and entertainment to their own communities. They also explained the role of “The Scottish Community Broadcasting Network’ which was launched at the Scottish Parliament last year, set up by Scottish community radio stations to assist and support each other in their endeavours to broadcast to their local community.
Mairi Paterson President of the Dunoon & Cowal Heritage Society then invited questions from the meeting. It was obvious from the questions asked that many of the audience were avid radio listeners and welcomed a local radio service especially one that involved the local community, addressed local matters and gave out local information.
Douglas and Victor again pointed out the opportunities for groups like the Dunoon and Cowal Heritage to get involved and told of how radio volunteers were at this time organising recording sessions of interesting subjects to broadcast on the DCR Website prior to radio broadcast when on “Air’.
Several members were very interested and it might not be to long before you can listen to variety of short programmes of local interest here on your very own website.
In his vote off thanks Heritage member Mr.Ian Aird referred to the success of a similar Community Radio he knows quite well in the Fort William area and the role it plays in the community and felt sure with public support the same could be achieved here”¦
Douglas and Victor would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended the meeting and for the hospitality shown and look forward to revisiting the group with an update later in the year.
